hello, for quite some time i was thinking about Tiki CMS as the platform to move to our non-profit web site (currently using Textpattern). Tiki has advantage having more features (although i do not need so many) and it's kind of monolithic so mostly all the features do wok after release not having problems with obsolete/unmaintained plugins etc. otoh. Dokuwiki brings simplicity (flat files over

db) and i'm intrigued by the possibility to use my preferred editor to write some larger portion of code offline and then upload to the server. moreover, afaict, pandocs has support for both Dokutiki reader/writer, so curios if anyone can shed some light on Dokutiki vs Tiki and/or has experience writing Dokutiki content offline and the uploading it?

gour: tangentially related: my portfolio web site ( https://www.glump.net/ ) is a DokuWiki instance that's synced from my development environment via Mercurial version control

    1) I use an unpublished plugin I wrote, to make attachments links starting with "::" rever to "the media folder at the path of this page". makes things a little easier when I'm writing text in VS Code.

    bkidwell
    2) my DW config files point to media and pages and config folders outside the DokuWiki executable program file tree. that makes synching with Mercurial a bit easier

    3) Writing offline in a test environment, using DokuWiki front-end, or using VS Code -- works just fine for me!
  47. message at
    bkidwell
    4) I do NOT sync the page history files ( "_attic" )
  48. message at
    bkidwell
I really should publish that "this folder" attachment hyperlink hack
  49. message at
    bkidwell
TLDR: my web site's source is text files in a distributed version control system, and the front-end rendering is DokuWiki with very little customization

bkidwell: i've installed it on my server, but just looking for some input how does it compare with Tiki, about writing content offline etc.

I can say my writing offline setup works fine for me. I haven't tried Tiki Wiki in a very long time, if at all

I would suggest that i you do NOT want fill-out forms, strictly structured calendar, and polls, maybe you should use something simpler than Tiki
  62. message at
    bkidwell
but you should defintiely TRY anything that interests you, in a test environment

I've been scared off of using Perl for any networked web service. I've seen one or two scary presentations about deal-breaker issues like: the example code i the manual pages for how to implement a CGI HTTP application contain an inadvertent shell exploit … in like 10 lines of code
